ABOUT
Welcome to Trailmedal.com! This is the site for the documentation of all things related to Boy Scout Hiking Trails. During the 1950s to 70s, Boy Scouting experienced the Golden Age of Hiking Trails. Boy Scout Units; Councils; OA Lodges; Civic Groups; and individuals created over 2,000 Hiking Trails across the United States and in several foreign countries. Hiking was an essential part of Scouting during this time and many Scouts were awarded Trail Medals and Patches for their efforts. Today fewer than 300 true Boy Scout Hiking Trails still exist due to lack of participation of Scouts enjoying the hobby and BSA Units/Councils/OA Lodges no longer sponsoring Trails. Urban sprawl also overtook many trails as the population grew in many metropolitan areas.
This site documents the Memorabilia and Ephemera from all known Trails. The database is broken down in alphabetical order and by state location. Each Trail will show you the awards earned and all related paperwork for the Trail. It is hoped this will help create an interest in Trail Collecting as well as the creation of new Trails or the resurrection of old/extinct trails for future Scouts! Happy Trails!
